For more than fiftly years historians, archaeologists and other writers have declared that the Monaro Aboriginal people had 'died out' by the early part of the 20th Century. Their story received, as best, a cursory glance. But they did not 'die out'. As official records show, and as the Aboriginal people have always known, at the time of the death of Biggenhook, often described as' the las of the Ngarigo', many Monaro Aboriginal people were living in Cooma and at the Delegate Aboriginal Reserve. Many others had moved to East Gippland and the South Coast of New South Wales where their descendants live today. This book presents a wide range of references, including official documents, journal articles, archaeological reports, newspaper articles, oral histories, records from grazing properties and stories from the Aboriginal people themselves. The picture which emerges returns the Aboriginal people to their rightful place in the history of the Monaro and to the country which was theirs for at least 20,000 years.
