Thames and Hudson 1988 Folio, Hardcover (cloth) in d/w, both excellent condition. An Illuminated Passover Compendium from Mid-14th Century Catalonia in the collections of The John Rylands University Library of Manchester with a commentary and a cycle of Poems. Contents includes Introduction, Notes on the Illuminations, Transcription and Translation. A 114 page Facsimile in full colour and gold. A product of the Sephardi, or southern, school of artists and scribes and of Catalonian origin, the Rylands manuscript is unusual in that it contains, in addition to the text of the Passover-eve ceremony itself, more than 80 poetic pieces that celebrate the preliminaries to the Festival and adorn the ritual of all its 8 days. Several of these are previously unpublished and virtually unknown.
